Vershon is a Jamaican reggae and dancehall singer, songwriter and singjay from Cockburn Pen in Kingston, Jamaica. Born Kemar Vershawn Brown, he grows up in a single-parent home and begins treating music as a path forward from an early age.
Early life and education
Vershon starts writing songs while still in primary school and records his first song at the age of nine. He attends Seaward Primary School and Greater Portmore High School, leaving at Grade 10. He later studies at Heart Trust NTA, where he earns a certificate in Electrical Engineering. By the age of 18, he has his own recording studio and works as a self-taught engineer.
Music career
Vershon records himself at home and also sells rhythms he creates as a source of income, while promoting his own music at parties and dancehall sessions in and around his community. He works with producer Christopher Birch of Birchill Music, who helps showcase his music. His releases include the singles “Open Relationship” and “Boom”, both appearing on Birch’s Tunova rhythm.
Style and writing
Vershon writes all of his own songs and draws on his personal experiences as well as the experiences of people close to him. He also plays keyboard and wants to learn more instruments as he continues developing his craft.
