Velvet Razor

Velvet Razor is an English rock group formed in 2003. The band is based around Dave Kent, who sings and plays lead guitar, with Jeff Rose on bass and Paul “Mr Fantastic” Tillotson on drums. The group also uses the keyboard part introduced when it replaces its previous singer and forms under that new line-up.

Background

The band develops out of years of practice in an abandoned aircraft hangar near Fairoaks in Surrey, followed by a long period of performing in clubs across London and the South East. After this earlier period, the members form Velvet Razor in 2003 and begin playing live under the new name.

Style and live work

Velvet Razor plays hard-edged rock that draws on British and American rock traditions. Their sound is associated with acts such as Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Cult and The Doors, while also taking on the energy of Guns N’ Roses, Foo Fighters, Green Day and Muse. The band performs in venues ranging from small rooms to larger festival stages and is noted for an energetic live approach.

Recordings and reception

The band’s studio work includes the EP Rainbow Warriors, which is promoted in 2010. It features tracks including “Victims of Love” and “The Shimmering Sun”. Velvet Razor also builds a substantial online following and receives radio play in the UK and in France. Its songs are available through the band’s website and digital music outlets.
