Vatersay Boys
Vatersay Boys are a five-piece Gaelic dance music group from Vatersay in the Outer Hebrides, Scotland, fronted by Michael Campbell of Vatersay on accordion and Donnie MacNeil of Barra on drums. Their line-up also uses accordions, pipes, whistles and guitar, and their music sits within the Celtic and Gaidhealtachd scene. The group forms around high-energy Highland and ceilidh music and performs with a raw, direct style built for dancing.
The band comes from Vatersay, the most southerly populated island of the Outer Hebrides, where the resident population is described as being under 100. They play throughout the Western Isles and beyond, and have become established in the wider Scottish traditional music circuit.
They receive a nomination for Best Live Band at the 2006 Scottish Traditional Music Awards. The group also plays sell-out shows at Glasgow’s Barrowlands and appears as a highlight at Belladrum Festival near Inverness and Loopallu Festival in Ullapool.
