van Canto
van Canto is a German a cappella metal group from Berlin, formed in 2006 and active since then. The band works with five singers and a drummer, and its sound is identified with heavy metal, metal and power metal.
Line-up
The group includes Dennis Strillinger, Ingo Sterzinger, Philip Dennis Schunke, Inga Scharf, Stefan Schmidt, Ross Thompson, Bastian Emig, Jan Moritz and Hagen Hirschmann. The listed core roles include lead male vocals, lead female vocals, lower “rakkatakka” and “wahwah solo guitar” vocals, higher “rakkatakka” vocals, lowest “dandan” voice chords, and drums. Dennis Strillinger is listed as a former drummer.
Releases
The band’s debut album, A Storm To Come, appears in 2006 on General Schallplatten. It includes seven original tracks, along with cover versions of Metallica’s “Battery” and “Stora Rövardansen” from Ronja Rövardotter.
Hero follows in 2008 and is later re-released in the same year and again in 2010. The 2010 edition contains 10 tracks and is distributed through GUN Records.
In 2010 the group changes to Napalm Records and issues Tribe of Force, a 13-track album. In 2011 it releases Break The Silence, which also contains 13 tracks including three bonus tracks. In 2014 the band releases its fifth studio album, Dawn of the Brave, also through Napalm Records. An Earbook edition is available, presented as a 30 x 30 cm book with a bonus CD and a DVD of the band’s Wacken performance from 2011.
