Vain
Vain are a heavy metal and glam metal band from San Francisco, United States, active from 1986 to the present. They are associated with glam metal, heavy metal and sleaze rock, and they emerge from the San Francisco Bay Area scene.
Formation and early line-up
Davy Vain forms the band in 1986 after recording a demo. The early line-up includes Jamie Scott, later known as Dylana Scott, Danny West, Ashley Mitchell and drummer Tom Rickard. By 2018, the group includes Davy Vain on lead vocals, Joel Proto on guitar, Ashley Mitchell on bass and Tommy Rickard on drums.
Recordings and label history
Vain sign with Island Records in 1988 and release their debut album, No Respect, the following year. The album reaches number 154 on the Billboard 200. The band also records a second album, but Island drops them in 1991.
Hiatus, reforming and later activity
In 1991, after the Island period ends, Davy Vain agrees to join Road Crew with Steven Adler, with Dylana Nova Scott also joining. The group later adds guitarist Shawn Rorie and bassist Ashley Mitchel. Vain then pauses, while Tommy Rickard and Danny West continue elsewhere. Road Crew also ends in 1991. Vain reform in 1993 and go through several line-up changes over the following years.
Studio albums
Vain release eight studio albums: No Respect, All Those Strangers, Move on It, Fade, On the Line, Enough Rope, Rolling With The Punches and Disintegrate Together. By 2005, Scott and West are back in the band, and Rickard rejoins in 2009, sharing drumming duties with Louie Senor.
