Urban Pioneers are a string band whose sound combines Texas fiddle, Tennessee banjo, doghouse bass and guitar. Their material consists of original songs that draw on old-time hillbilly music, western swing, rockabilly and gypsy-influenced songs, alongside hillbilly folk music.

The group tours extensively and performs internationally, with a repertoire built around high-energy string-band arrangements. Their instrumentation and style place them within hillbilly swing and bluegrass-related traditions, while also extending into rockabilly and western swing.
