Unsung Lilly

Unsung Lilly is a UK pop group formed in 2012. The act centres on two lead singers, Sera and Frankie, whose contrasting voices shape the group’s sound. Their music draws on a range of stylistic influences and has been compared to a modern-day Fleetwood Mac.

Early activity and live performances

The group forms quickly in 2012 and makes its first public appearance at the charity event London Rocks at Café de Paris. In its first months, it also plays Guilfest alongside Jools Holland, Heaven 17 and ABC, and later performs to a crowd of 25,000 at Belfast Pride. These early shows establish the group’s live profile in the UK.

Recordings and releases

Unsung Lilly releases a series of homemade iPhone videos online, which attract tens of thousands of views and help build an international following. This leads to demand for recorded music. The debut EP, Time Changes Minds, appears in 2012 and is later re-mastered in 2013. The first single, Happy, follows in 2013 and receives worldwide radio play. The next single, Just Be, also arrives in 2013 and gains over 200,000 views on YouTube within a few weeks. A third single, I Remember, is then released and also receives radio airplay.

Album work and later development

Later in 2013, the group records its debut album, which is funded through PledgeMusic and released directly to fans. The EP Time Changes Minds is also made available to US listeners through iTunes. In Los Angeles, the group appears at the Hollywood Sync Summit, where it meets Wayne Vaughn of Earth, Wind & Fire. It then works with him in LA on writing and recording, with Vaughn also helping to shape a revised live show backed by Los Angeles musicians.
