University

University are a punk-noise quartet from Crewe, England. The band consists of Ewan on bass and synths, Zak on guitar and vocals, Joel on drums, and Eddie on Xbox 360. They describe themselves as playing for fun together, and their performances include Eddie gaming onstage.

Style and sound

Their music combines sharp, catchy punk with heavy rock elements and a noisy edge. It also moves into longer, more extreme pieces, including what are described as “blackened ten-minute monsters”, and ranges between intense and more light-hearted moods. Their sardonic humour is part of the band’s sound.

Releases and label

Their debut album is McCartney, It'll Be OK. It includes the track “GTA Online”. The band signs to Transgressive and says that, while they take the business side of the group more seriously, they continue to push the music towards more absurd and extreme ideas.

Background

University come from Crewe, and the band says there is no music scene there. Their sound is also compared with early Biffy Clyro in its scale and force.
