Union 13

Union 13 is a hardcore punk group from Los Angeles, with roots in Boyle Heights, California. The band starts out playing backyard parties in the early 1990s and builds a reputation for an intense live show that draws the attention of Brett Gurewitz, owner of Epitaph Records.

Recording and releases

After seeing the band perform, Gurewitz arranges for them to cut a demo at Westbeach Recorders in Hollywood. He then plays the recording for Tim Armstrong and Lars Frederiksen of Rancid, who become involved in producing the group’s Epitaph debut, East Los Presents (1997). Union 13 releases four full-length albums in total, three through Epitaph Records and one on Disaster Records.

Touring and lineup

The band develops through extensive touring with acts including Voodoo Glow Skulls, Bouncing Souls, 7 Seconds, U.S. Bombs, Gutter Mouth and H20, including the first Punk O Rama tour. It also shares stages with Latin rock groups Molotov and Cafe Tacuba on the Watcha tour.

Longstanding members Edward Escoto and Baltazar Rodriguez are joined by guitarist Eddie Carrasco and drummer Cassie Julie. Union 13 remains active and continues touring and writing new music.
