Underside
Underside is a Nepalese metal band formed in 2010 in Kathmandu, Nepal. The group begins when Avishek K.C., the frontman for E.Quals/Lost Oblivion, meets a guitarist from the Geneva-based band Law of Silence during a recording session at Silence Studios in December 2010, just before the first Silence Festival in Nepal. Bikash Bhujel, Manil Shakya and Bbek Tamang join the project, and the band takes shape as Underside.
Style and activity
The band plays metal with influences ranging from retro rock to old-school thrash, presented in a modern style. It is also associated with metalcore, hardcore, rapcore and pop punk. Underside builds a following early on through its live performances, despite having limited studio material in its first years.
Releases and performances
Underside’s debut EP, Welcome to the Underside, is released in 2014. A music video for the song “Disconnect” accompanies the release and is noted for showing the developing production standards in Nepal’s scene. The band performs at a range of national and international events, including Silence Fest II, Silence Fest IV and Nepfest, and shares stages with acts such as Vader, Behemoth and Decapitated. It also performs in parts of Europe.
