Uncertainty

Uncertainty is a hardcore group from Bristol. The band is a four-piece and also works in a post-punk and shoegazing direction, with screeching guitars, heavy percussion and lyrics that stress personal honesty. Its sound is described as drawing on the dream-drone style associated with the early 1990s.

Background

The group forms around frontman and guitarist Cyrus Youngman, whose songwriting is shaped by the idea of uncertainty as a condition affecting relationships, work, faith, the future and the nature of reality. He links the band’s name to this wider sense of doubt and unease.

Cyrus Youngman’s earlier projects

Before Uncertainty, Youngman plays in a number of bands during high school and college. In ninth grade, his hardcore group The Hope Remains wins Madison County’s battle of the bands competition and goes on to perform with acts including Gwen Stacy, Life Ruiner and Eyes Set To Kill. In eleventh grade, he records an acoustic folk demo of original songs and holds a position on the Indiana MySpace Music Charts as the state’s second most popular unsigned folk artist for three weeks. In his first year of college, he forms Wendy And The Lost Boys and wins first place in the Teetering For Tots Battle Of The Bands Competition.
