Umfang

Umfang is the name used by Emma Olson, a Brooklyn techno producer and DJ. She co-founds the New York-based Discwoman collective and works within techno, minimal techno, experimental and ambient techno, with an approach that draws on sparse and ambient textures as well as club-oriented rhythm.

Olson is born in the Bronx and is based in Brooklyn. Her production style is described as exploratory and positioned between dancefloor mechanics and more atmospheric or stripped-back ideas. Her influences span Motown and German minimalism.

She releases Symbolic Use of Light through Technicolour, the Ninja Tune imprint, as her debut full-length.
