Experimental rock band
One UMA is an experimental rock band formed by Om and Pogo in 2004. In its early period, the line-up includes Starla on guitar, Ulysses on drums, Pio on synth, Om on guitar and vocals, and Pogo on bass. The band has a short period of recognition in the underground Mexican scene between 2004 and 2006, then goes on hiatus, and later announces that it is working on new songs.
Experimental electronic pop duo
Another UMA is a Berlin-based experimental electronic pop duo. Its music combines deep rhythms, bass sounds and choir-like vocal chants. Ella and Flo meet during a turbulent summer in 2008, later marry, and form UMA in 2012. They release their first EP through Seayou Records in Austria and Enraptured Records in the UK. The EP receives press attention, including a review in The Wire, and the duo also draws support from a Silver Apples feature. The pair then record their first studio album at Berlin’s Oogumboogum studios, using a wide range of equipment and recording to tape.
Experimental musical duo from Fiskum, Norway
A third UMA is an experimental musical duo from Fiskum, Norway. The group includes Eirik Waadeland on strings and vocals and Eivind Ditlev Molin on drums. Its sound is influenced by sludge, doom, death, black and prog metal, with reference points including Bölzer, Mantar, Conan, Gatecreeper and Meshuggah.
