Ultramarine
Ultramarine are an electronic duo from Essex, United Kingdom, made up of Ian Cooper and Paul Hammond. The group forms in 1989 and remains active. Cooper and Hammond first work together in the band A Primary Industry in the mid-1980s before forming Ultramarine after that group splits.
Early releases and style
The duo release Folk in 1990, followed by Every Man Every Woman Is A Star in 1991. They are associated with progressive dance and electronic music, and their work also connects to ambient house, electronica, ambient, and folktronica.
Blanco y Negro era
Ultramarine sign to Blanco y Negro and issue United Kingdoms, a folk-influenced album that features Robert Wyatt. They later release Bel Air, which is described as having a jazzier sound.
Later activity
After putting out a compilation of older material, the group effectively comes to an end, although reports of a new single called Find A Way appear in Wire in 2011.
