Uh Huh Her

Uh Huh Her is a United States-based group formed in 2007 by Leisha Hailey and Camila Grey. The act continues with Alicia Warrington also listed as a member. It works in indie, electronic, electropop and indie rock, and is associated with female vocals.

Formation and members

Hailey, who previously performs with alt-pop group The Murmurs and later Gush, and who also appears in the television series The L Word, teams up with Grey after they are introduced by mutual friends. They begin writing together at the start of 2007. Hailey has spent about five years away from music before forming the band, while Grey is moving away from session and background work in order to focus on her own writing and production.

Grey is a bassist and keyboardist from Mellowdrone and has also worked with Dr. Dre, Busta Rhymes, Melissa Auf Der Maur, Kelly Osbourne and Adam Lambert. The group is based in Los Angeles.

Early releases

Their first EP, I See Red, is recorded over several months in a bedroom at Grey’s Los Angeles home, with vocals tracked in the bathroom. Grey produces the EP, and Al Clay handles the mix. Clay has also worked with the Pixies, Frank Black and Blur.

The release introduces the duo through tightly written electro-pop songs marked by melodic hooks, layered vocal harmonies, string arrangements and strong drums.

Debut album

Uh Huh Her’s first full-length album, Common Reaction, follows less than a year after the EP. It is recorded in January at Al Clay’s Los Angeles studio and is an 11-track record. The album includes the songs “Not a Love Song,” “Wait Another Day” and “Explode,” and continues the band’s mix of accessible melody and eclectic songwriting.

The group describes its music as aiming for broad appeal while resisting a narrowly pop sound.
