Txarango

Txarango is a group from Barcelona, Catalunya, active since 2006. The trio consists of Sergi Carbonell, Marcel Lázara and Júlia Arrey. Their work is associated with a broad mix of styles including cumbia, dubstep, pop, reggae and salsa, alongside the patchanka and rumba influences often linked to their sound.

Style and language

The group develops an energetic live fusion sound that brings together reggae, Latin music and local rhythms. Their songs are performed in Catalan and Spanish, and their repertoire is built around carefully written material with strong lyrics that becomes especially direct in performance.

Early profile and live activity

Txarango emerges from the Raval district of Barcelona, an area known for its multicultural character and for producing other groups such as Ojos de Brujo and 08001. The band establishes itself through extensive touring across Europe and by making its first album, Benvinguts al llarg viatge (“Welcome to the long journey”), available as a free download.

Musical identity

The group is associated with a message centred on energy, joy and celebration, which is reflected in both its recordings and its live shows. Its Barcelona-rooted sound places it within the city’s urban music scene while drawing on wider Latin and Mediterranean influences.
