Twiggy

Twiggy is the stage name of Lesley Hornby, an English model, actress and singer born in 1949 in Neasden, United Kingdom. She is also known by her married name, Twiggy Lawson, and is widely associated with the 1960s as a pop culture figure recognised for her appearance and modelling work.

After four years as a model, she moves into acting and singing. Her film work includes Ken Russell’s 1971 screen version of The Boy Friend, based on Sandy Wilson’s musical, for which she wins two Golden Globe Awards. She also appears in stage and screen roles including My One and Only and as Eliza Doolittle in a 1981 television production of Pygmalion, opposite Robert Powell.

In 2005 she joins the judging panel of America’s Next Top Model, becoming one of the show’s permanent judges. She also returns to modelling and fronts a campaign for Marks & Spencer. In 2006 she voices a younger version of herself in the BBC Radio 4 play Elevenses with Twiggy.
