TV Priest
TV Priest is a London post-punk group that forms in 2019 and is active from then on. It begins as a reunion of four childhood friends who make music together as teenagers before drifting apart and later coming back together.
Formation and early activity
The band’s first performance takes place in November 2019 in Hackney Wick, in what they describe as an industrial freezer in a warehouse district. That first show is played to a small group of friends. The members at that point are vocalist Charlie Drinkwater, guitarist Alex Sprogis, bass and keys player Nic Bueth, and drummer Ed Kelland.
The group’s background includes years spent pursuing ordinary jobs and what they call real life before returning to music together. Their name marks a new start after that period apart.
Style and release history
TV Priest is associated with post-punk and also with crank wave, indie rock, spoken word, and art punk. Their debut single, House of York, appears in April 2020 and is described as a sharp response to the monarchy. It arrives during a period of public anxiety and uncertainty and serves as the band’s first recorded statement.
Members
The group includes Nic Bueth, who plays bass and keys. The other named members are Charlie Drinkwater, Alex Sprogis, and Ed Kelland.
