Turner

Turner is the recording name of Paul Kominek, a musician, producer and DJ from Frankfurt am Main, Germany, who is born in Poland in 1978. He works in electronic music and electropop, and is associated with the Dial label.

Early life and debut releases

Kominek grows up in Frankfurt/Main after being born in Poland. In 1997, he releases his debut 12-inch single, biocenter, on Poets Club Records, a label run by Jan Peter Schwalm, who is a long-time producing partner of Brian Eno. The following year, the first 12-inch releases under the name Turner appear on Ladomat Records in Hamburg and quickly gain attention in the electronic music scene.

Albums, label work and collaborations

After four albums, Kominek has already built a substantial career as a musician and label owner. In 2001, he co-founds the label dial-rec. with Peter Kersten, known as Lawrence, and David Jost, known as Carsten Jost. He also works on film soundtracks and produces music for other artists, including Andreas Dorau. His remix work includes versions for Ellen Allien, Miss Kittin, Depeche Mode and A-ha.

Later projects

When dial-rec. is later run by David Jost and Peter Kersten alone, Kominek founds his own label, Orphanear, distributed by wordandsound. The label is intended as a home for Pawel and other projects involving long-term collaborators and newer artists. A Pawel debut album appears in 2010.
