Trust Fund
Trust Fund is an indie rock and lo-fi group from Bristol, active from 2012. The project is founded and led by Ellis Jones, and recordings and live performances also include a rotating lineup of musicians.
Releases
The group begins with the self-released EP I’ve Been Ages, followed by Don’t Let Them Begin and a split EP with Joanna Gruesome, both released on Reeks of Effort. In 2015, Trust Fund signs to Turnstile Records for its first full-length album, No One’s Coming for Us. A second album, Seems Unfair, follows later the same year on the same label.
After Jones relocates to Leeds, the third album, We Have Always Lived in the Harolds, is released in 2016 and is recorded at home without a label. Its title refers to Shirley Jackson’s 1962 novel We Have Always Lived in the Castle, replacing the castle with the Harolds, a group of streets in Leeds where Jones lives. Trust Fund’s fourth and final full-length album, Bringing the Backline, appears in 2018.
Activity and related work
During its active years, Trust Fund tours with Los Campesinos!, Speedy Ortiz and Mitski. After the project ends, Jones publishes the book DIY Music And The Politics Of Social Media and becomes a professor. Jones later releases the one-off track “Can’t Take It” under the Trust Fund name, followed by the singles “Capital” and “Late Nite Skate” in 2022.
