Trudy and the Romance

Trudy and the Romance are a Liverpool-based trio formed in 2014 by singer and guitarist Oliver Taylor with bass player Lewis Rollinson and drummer Brad Mullins. The group first appears under the name Trudy before adopting the longer name Trudy and the Romance.

Style and early releases

The band describe their sound as “'50s mutant pop”, drawing on jump blues, doo wop and early rock and roll while turning those elements into garage punk. Their early recordings introduce a rough-edged mix of vintage-style guitar and harmony vocals. The first of their stand-alone songs is “All My Love”, released in 2015 and produced by Spring King’s Tarek Musa.

Singles, covers and label moves

In 2016, the band release the “Wild” and “He Sings” double A-side singles, which mark a move to B3SCI Records. They also record versions of Elvis Presley’s “I Want You, I Need You, I Love You” and “Baby Mine” from Disney’s Dumbo.

EPs and albums

Trudy and the Romance introduce themselves more fully with the EP Junkyard Jazz in 2017, which consists of original songs. Their first album, Sandman, follows on B3SCI in 2019.
