Tripmastaz is the project of Andrew Guyvoronsky from Sankt-Peterburg. The act begins as a partnership between Guyvoronsky and Eugene Lookash, who share an interest in tech-focused club music and decide to work under the Tripmastaz name.

Background

Guyvoronsky first comes to music through hip hop, but later turns toward house music, which becomes a stronger influence on his work. He studies the sound of Chicago house and tech rhythms and starts writing his own music and mixing records. His approach is described as experimental, with an emphasis on groove, mood and the message carried by each track.

Lookash is active in the Chelyabinsk club scene and is described as a pioneer of Russian club culture. He co-opens many of Chelyabinsk’s notable clubs and has more than a decade of experience as a DJ, alongside radio and booking work. His preference is the “techy” side of music, including techno, house and breaks.

Style and work

Tripmastaz develops a sound that shifts across tech, deep, minimal, freaky, funky, underground, dubby, dirty and dark territory. The project is associated with DJ sets and live performances in clubs, and both members are presented as strong selectors with an interest in crowd-focused, groove-led sets.

Releases and labels

In the early part of the project’s output, Tripmastaz releases tracks on Grab Recordings in the United States, Morris Audio in Switzerland and U-Freqs in the UK. Work mentioned includes an EP for U-Freqs Records and the track “Drop my balls” for a Proton Radio mix compilation mixed by Daniel Mnookin and Brian Ffar. The project also provides guest mixes for Proton Radio.

ESTATICA

Tripmastaz also launches ESTATICA, a label intended for exclusive new music, with plans for both digital releases and vinyl.
