Triple Sickz

Triple Sickz is a drum and bass act made up of three artists: Teksteppa, Onyx and MC Doc Sirius. Their sound sits within drum and bass and is associated with techstep, darkside and darkstep.

Teksteppa begins as a DJ and producer who gets into rave music while still at school, listening to acts and tapes such as The Prodigy, Fantazia, Dreamscape, Helter Skelter and The Edge. He starts mixing after buying turntables, and his first residency is at a local night in Stratford-upon-Avon called Underground. He later meets a house music producer, learns music production from software discs, spends long periods sequencing beats on his PC, and gains attention for his tracks through online forums. Interest from DJs and producers leads to a deal with the US label Freestyle Recordings. He also records under the alias Morphesis, with releases on Darkland Recordings, Oni Records and Flight Recordings.

Onyx discovers the early rave scene in the early 1990s and begins buying decks after selling his drum kit, which had also fed his interest in making breakbeats, loops and beats. He follows a jungle route, is influenced by Easygroove, Ratty, Ellis D, Sy and Randall, and later moves towards a darker drum and bass sound. He cites Tec Itch, Dylan, Limewax, SPL and Current Value among the artists shaping his taste.

MC Doc Sirius comes into the culture through breakbeat, house, hardcore, jungle techno and drum and bass during the 1990s. From 2000 onwards, he widens his interest in darker, more technical and neurofunk drum and bass through Dark Wax Radio. He also works on music production and collaborations, including with Teksteppa under the Morphesis name. He is linked to the track “Demonstration EP” title track on Flight Recordings, and he also MCs at events around the Midlands, where he holds a residency at Whiplash DnB events.
