Treva Whateva

Treva Whateva is the recording name of Mark Crunden-White, a British electronic and breakbeat artist from Stockport, England. He grows up collecting vinyl and begins his working life in record shops, which shapes his later path in music.

Early career

In 1993, he starts work at Boom! Tunes, a record store owned by Dave the Ruf, who later performs as Jeep Beat Collective DJ the Ruf. After the shop closes, he spends a period outside the music business before moving to Fat City record store and label in 1997. While there, he helps assemble the label’s Mystic Brew compilation series and continues developing his own recordings.

Recordings and labels

His first released track is Tum and Waist, which appears on the fourth volume of DJ Morpheus’ Freezone series. After further compilation appearances, he signs to Skint in 2000. The label releases the EPs Overdrawn & Overdue and Long Time Female Friend before he moves to Ninja Tune in 2002. His first release for Ninja Tune is the Dance Class EP in 2004.

Album

In 2005, he releases his first full-length album, Music’s Made of Memories. His work is associated with Ninja Tune, breakbeat, electronic music, turntablism and breaks.
