Trent Tomlinson is an American country singer-songwriter from Kennett, Missouri. His songs often focus on personal themes such as drinking, camaraderie, broken dreams and failed relationships, and he is known for writing material that reflects his own outlook and experiences.

Early life and background

Tomlinson begins his musical path in Kennett, Missouri, the same town as Sheryl Crow. He is the son of a former basketball star who stands 6'8" and sets scoring records at the University of Missouri before being drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers. After knee surgery ends his professional basketball ambitions, his father works as a basketball coach and biology teacher at Kennett High School, and pushes Tomlinson towards basketball.

Tomlinson later decides that basketball is not for him and turns to music instead. In his junior year of high school, he reaches the finals of TNN’s You Can Be a Star and finishes second. He then tries college, but leaves after six months to move to Nashville.

Recording career

After a series of record deals fall through because of label bankruptcies or takeovers, Tomlinson secures a deal with Cal IV Entertainment. He also records material for Lyric Street Records. His work is associated with country and country rock, and he is also described as a Southern rock artist and male vocalist.

Media appearances

Tomlinson performs his single “Drunker Than Me” on The Howard Stern Show with Andrea Brooke Ownbey, also known as “Miss Howard Stern,” as a duet. Ownbey is a fan of the song and appears intoxicated during the performance.
