Travi$ Scott

Travi$ Scott is the stage name of Jacques Bermon Webster II, an American rapper, singer, songwriter and record producer from Houston, Texas, in the United States. He is also known by the later stylised form Travis Scott.

Career

Scott begins his career with a run of releases that establish his place in contemporary hip-hop and trap. He signs his first major-label contract with Epic Records in 2012 and also secures a publishing deal with Kanye West’s GOOD Music. In April 2013, he signs a joint recording contract with Epic and T.I.’s Grand Hustle imprint.

His first full-length project is the mixtape OWL PHARAOH, which he self-releases in 2013. He follows it with the mixtape Days Before Rodeo in 2014. His debut studio album, Rodeo (2015), is led by the single “Antidote”.

Scott’s second album, Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight (2016), becomes his first number one album on the Billboard 200. The following year he releases Huncho Jack, Jack Huncho, a collaborative album with Quavo issued under the group name Huncho Jack. In 2018, his third studio album, ASTROWORLD, receives critical acclaim and produces his first Billboard Hot 100 number one single, “SICKO MODE”.

In late 2019, his label Cactus Jack Records releases the compilation album JACKBOYS, which also reaches number one on the Billboard 200. After the single “FRANCHISE” in 2020, Scott becomes the first artist on the Hot 100 to have three songs debut at number one in less than a year. His fourth studio album, UTOPIA, is released in 2023 and becomes his fourth consecutive number one album on the Billboard 200.

Style, name and recognition

His stage name combines the name of a favourite uncle with the first name of one of his musical inspirations, Kid Cudi, whose real name is Scott Ramon Seguro Mescudi. Scott is nominated for ten Grammy Awards and wins a Billboard Music Award and a Latin Grammy Award.

Controversy

Scott is also associated with controversies and legal issues connected to concert safety. In 2021, a crowd crush takes place during his performance at the Astroworld Festival in Houston, where ten people die and hundreds are injured.
