T.R.A.S.E.

T.R.A.S.E. stands for Tape Recorder and Synthesizer Ensemble. It is a group associated with rock, electronic, outsider and synth pop.

Background

In 1979, Andy Popplewell begins building his own six-track mixer from a blueprint in an electronics hobbyist magazine. Before turning 17, he moves on to making his own synthesiser. He then writes a synth pop album in his mother’s garage and records it himself between 1981 and 1983, making a single cassette copy.

Later release

More than 30 years later, in 2012, a chance meeting with Andy Votel leads to the cassette being released as an album. The recording is not sent out as a demo at the time it is made.
