Toxic Holocaust
Toxic Holocaust is an American thrash metal group from Portland, United States. Joel Grind forms the project in 1999 and initially writes and records the music alone. The group is active from 1999 to the present and includes Joel Grind, Phil Zeller and Nick Bellmore.
Early releases and first albums
After two demo releases, Radiation Sickness and Critical Mass, Toxic Holocaust makes its full-length debut with Evil Never Dies in 2003. Grind then follows it with Hell on Earth in 2005, an album that he again writes and records himself. That release features cover art by Ed Repka, whose artwork appears on albums by bands including Megadeth and Death.
Relapse Records period
Following touring with a hired backing band, Toxic Holocaust signs with Relapse Records. The label reissues Evil Never Dies and Hell on Earth and also releases the band’s third album, An Overdose of Death..., in 2008.
Later recordings
Toxic Holocaust continues with the EP Gravelord in 2009, then Conjure and Command in 2011 and Chemistry of Consciousness in 2013. The group’s sound is identified with thrash metal, black metal and speed metal, and it is also described as blackened thrash metal.
