Top Buzzer

Top Buzzer are a London group active since 2011, playing pop-punk with a sound that also draws on punk, pop and new wave. The trio form around a DIY approach, and within weeks of their first rehearsal they set up their own label, Back2Forward Records.

Early releases and debut album

The band releases its first EP, The Hands Up EP, around six weeks after forming. After touring in the US and appearing at SXSW, it records its debut album, Outside Is A World. The album is later mixed by Kennan Keating, whose credits include Nine Inch Nails, Blondie and Alan Vega, after the band meets him in Brooklyn while touring in the United States.

Press, radio and touring

Top Buzzer receives attention from Kerrang!, Rock Sound and Big Cheese for Outside Is A World. The album’s first single, “Remission”, is played on Kerrang!, Q Radio and BBC Introducing, and its video airs on Scuzz TV. The band also gets radio play in the United States, including KROQ and Marky Ramone’s Punk Rock Blitzkrieg show.

Another track, “You’re So Good You’re Great”, reaches number 2 on the Strummerville download chart and brings further attention from Amazing Radio’s Rock Show. The group also appears on Rebel On The Underground - A Tribute To X-Ray Spex, a 2012 compilation made for the US charity Sweet Relief, and is one of only two acts on the album not based in the United States.

Later releases and live activity

In 2013, Top Buzzer releases The Sprollie EP and tours Europe with Face To Face and CH3 before playing Rebellion Festival. In 2014, it completes further European tours with Jonny Lives! and The Movement and returns to Rebellion Festival. In January 2015, the band is the last act to play the 12 Bar in Soho at the venue’s request. Later in 2015, it releases the Inside is a Room EP, which presents a more varied sound while keeping the hooks associated with the group.
