Tool Shed

Tool Shed is a group from New York, United States, associated with folk rock and psychedelic folk. The name is also used for more than one separate act, including a college-project release from New York and an old-time folk ensemble described as being based in Baltimore.

New York college project

One version of Tool Shed is described as an urban college-dorm hippie-folk album and a various-artists college project from New York City. It includes unusual and reflective tracks, including “Angels in her walk,” and is referred to simply as Tool Shed.

Old-time folk ensemble

Another Tool Shed is an old-time folk ensemble that uses 5-string banjo, bowed saw, and washtub bass to reinterpret traditional music. Its debut album, Local Liquid Folk Art, includes both original and traditional compositions. The album features David Allen Thomas on banjo and vocals and Cara White on saw and vocals, with Richard Ochs on washtub bass on the recording. In live performance, the group uses various players. The ensemble’s instrumentation gives the album a continuous, fluid feel across its songs. The album is available through OKAY Recordings and on major streaming and download platforms.

Other use of the name

The name Tool Shed is also used by a UK Tool tribute band made up of musicians who perform material associated with Tool and aim to recreate the band’s sound and live presentation.
