Tony Mortimer is a singer, rapper, writer, composer and record producer from Stepney, London, born in 1970. He is best known as a former member of East 17, the boy band in which he writes most, if not all, of the songs and also choreographs much of the dance material.

East 17 has seven UK top ten hits and a number one single with “Stay Another Day”. Mortimer leaves the group in 1997, after Brian Harvey rejoins following his dismissal over comments about drugs.

After East 17, Mortimer continues working in music as a producer. He works closely with the girl group Urban Angel, which includes Roxanne Pallett. He also experiences eating disorders and agoraphobia after the split.

In 2007, after around a decade without contact between the former members, he organises a one-night gig in Shepherd’s Bush. The event is a success, and there is hope of a new deal and a renewed partnership, although this does not happen. Mortimer is also linked with a later release involving Tony, Terry and John, including the track “Hold On”.
