Tonight Alive

Tonight Alive is an Australian alternative rock and pop punk group from Castle Hill, New South Wales. The band forms in 2008 and remains active. Its lineup includes vocalist Jenna McDougall, bassist Cameron Adler, guitarist Jake Hardy and drummer Matty Best, with former guitarist and vocalist Whakaio “Whak” Taahi leaving the group in late 2017.

Early years and scene

The band builds a following in Australia’s pop-punk scene and plays shows with acts including Fireworks, Heroes for Hire and The Wonder Years. It then develops a wider international profile through extensive touring in North America and Europe.

Recordings and releases

Tonight Alive releases the EP All Shapes and Disguises in June 2010, followed by Consider This later that year. Its debut album, What Are You So Scared Of?, is released in Australia in 2011 and later in the UK and US the following year. Singles from the album include “Breaking and Entering”, “Starlight”, “Listening” and “Let It Land”.

In 2013 the band issues “Breakdown”, a standalone single featuring Benji Madden of Good Charlotte. It does not appear on the second studio album, The Other Side, which is released in 2013 and includes the singles “The Ocean”, “Come Home” and “Lonely Girl”.

In 2014 Tonight Alive releases “The Edge”, the lead single from the soundtrack to The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and the song’s video includes footage from the film. The third studio album, Limitless, follows in 2016, introduced by “Human Interaction”; other singles from the record include “To Be Free”, “Drive” and “How Does It Feel?”.

The group signs to Hopeless Records and UNFD in 2017 and releases the standalone single “World Away”. Later that year it issues “Temple” and announces Underworld, which appears in 2018. Singles from that album include “Crack My Heart” and “Disappear”, the latter featuring Lynn Gunn of PVRIS.
