Tomas Barfod

Tomas Barfod is a house DJ and producer from Copenhagen, Denmark. He is a member of Filur and of the Danish electropop band WhoMadeWho, where he plays drums and also produces. His work spans a wide range of electronic styles, including house, minimal, minimal techno, ambient techno and releases that move as far as Japanese pop.

Career

Barfod begins playing drums at the age of 10, then later turns to buying vintage synthesizers, samplers and sequencers, which leads him into DJing and production. He works both solo and with other artists, including Kasper Bjørke, and builds a varied catalogue across different electronic labels.

His early breakthrough comes through the Tomboy acid/disco 12-inch series on Gomma Records. After that he releases music on Get Physical, Kitsuné and Turbo, with tracks such as “Samba” and “I.K. Guitar” becoming club favourites. He also releases the album Salton Sea on Friends of Friends in 2012.

Remixes and collaborations

Barfod is also an in-demand remixer. He makes remixes for Bloc Party, Franz Ferdinand, Gorillaz, Lopazz, Telex, Chromeo and Asia Argento. Outside his underground electronic work, he also works with pop and urban artists including Dev, Young L, C.C. Sheffield and T. Mills.
