Tom Demac

Tom Demac is a UK electronic music artist from North Wales. He also spends part of his working life managing a web development team, and makes music under the Tom Demac name in his spare time.

Background

He spends time in Manchester and Barcelona before returning to North Wales, where he draws inspiration from the local landscape. He begins making music from early sessions in a friend’s garage, using a few rusty pieces of equipment and a four-track recorder. He later studies music technology at Salford University.

Style and influences

His music is shaped by Detroit techno, electronica, dub and jazz. He works with live electronic music and develops a sound aimed at the dancefloor while remaining melodic enough for home listening. His work is associated with minimal, electronic, minimal techno, techno and tech house.

Releases and labels

After releasing records on the Free Rotation collective imprints Mindyourhead Records and Mindtours, he sets up the label Electronique Audio. The first three releases on the label are Decisions, New Beginnings and Liquid Staircase, which receive international exposure and support.

Collaborations

In 2006 he collaborates with Duckett, a fellow resident of North Wales. Together they record the EPs Critical Distance on Electronique Audio, Unnecessary Cosmetics on STHLM Audio and Climate Flu on Disappear Here.
