Todd Edwards is a house and UK garage producer from Bloomfield, United States, born in 1972. He begins his career around 1992 and first releases music under the alias The Todd Edwards Project.

Style and influence

Edwards is known for a production style built from micro-samples arranged over swung UK garage beats and percussion, with bass lines that draw on disco. He is regarded as one of the key figures in UK garage and influences a wide range of artists, including MJ Cole, Burial, Daft Punk and Akufen.

Career

His early influence comes especially from Mark Kinchen, also known as MK, whose remixes use vocal reconstruction and chopping, including the remix of The Nightcrawlers' Push The Feeling On. Edwards also works with a strong Christian faith and treats God as one of his main creative inspirations; religious lyrics and phrases appear in some of his songs and remixes.

His discography includes hundreds of songs and remixes. He remixes artists including Wildchild, St Germain, Nicole J McCloud, Mad Moses, Robin S., Dimitri From Paris and Benjamin Diamond. His releases include Prima Edizione, the Full On series, the New Trends Sounds series and Odyssey.

Collaboration and recognition

In 2013, Edwards collaborates with Daft Punk on Fragments of Time, a track on Random Access Memories. When the album wins Album of the Year at the 2014 Grammy Awards, Edwards shares in the award.

Later activity and label releases

Defected Records later announces streaming releases of much of his catalogue through 4 To The Floor Records, including material from Prima Edizione and other EPs and singles. This set includes club tracks such as Shut The Door, Saved My Life and Wishing I Were Home. He continues to produce and remix.
