Tocadisco

Tocadisco is the stage name of Roman Böer, a German techno producer and DJ from Berlin, born in 1974. His name is taken from the Spanish word for record player.

Career

He begins his DJ career around 1996 at Düsseldorf’s Unique Club. As a producer, he gains wider attention after remixing Slam’s “Lifetimes”, which is voted among the best remixes of 2001 in a Groove magazine reader poll. In 2003, “Nobody (Likes the records that I play)” brings him into international chart circulation and into radio and television rotation.

A worldwide tour follows, and 2005 becomes a particularly active period for him. His remix of Mylo’s “In Your Arms” becomes a heavily played record that summer and leads to further remix work for artists including Axwell & Ingrosso, the Egg, A’Studio, ATB, Hi-Track and Philippe B. He also releases “You’re No Good For Me” and later “Music Loud/Crazy Cursor”.

Tocadisco works on numerous remixes across house and electronic music, including material for New Order, Deep Dish, Pet Shop Boys, Mylo, Linus Love, Sono, Etienne Daho, Flatpack, Boosta, Funkwerkstatt, M.A.N.D.Y. vs. Booka Shade, Enigma, Sharam, Moby and others. His rework of the Egg’s “Walking Away” becomes one of the biggest club releases of 2006 and is described by MIXMAG as the “biggest Dance Single of 2006”. The remix is also used by David Guetta in an official bootleg version of “Love Don’t Let Me Go”, and it is picked up for television and a Citroën advertising campaign.

Albums, aliases and labels

He uses the underground pseudonym AC/OT for a separate outlet for his broader musical interests. In 2005, he releases three four-track EPs under that name, with remixes by John Dahlbäck and Martinez. He also launches The Black Series as a new underground series.

His first full-length album, Solo, is released in 2008. The album includes “Better Begin”, which features Sono vocalist Lennart A. Salomon. He also co-produces “Tomorrow Can Wait” with David Guetta. His label is Toca45 Recordings.
