Timber Timbre
Timber Timbre is a Canadian folk group based in Toronto, formed in 2005 and led by Taylor Kirk. The project also includes Mika Posen and Simon Trottier. Its sound is associated with folk, indie folk, indie and lo-fi elements.
Early releases
The group’s debut album, Cedar Shakes, is recorded in a farmhouse near Bobcaygeon, Ontario, and appears in 2006. The name Timber Timbre is chosen as a reference to the setting and the album’s warm, haunted sound. The second album, Medicinals, appears in 2007 and is recorded by Kirk in his empty apartment in Toronto. Kirk describes it as more of a meditation on the rural landscape than a portrait of city life.
Labels and later work
Medicinals is released on Shuffling Feet Records, the Peterborough label run by Jonas Bonnetta of Evening Hymns, who also masters the record. Timber Timbre’s third album is released by Toronto label Out of this Spark in January 2009.
