Thumpermonkey

Thumpermonkey is a London-based progressive rock group that is also known as Thumpermonkey Lives!. It begins in 2001 as Thumpermonkey Lives!, initially a solo project for Mike Woodman, who releases one EP and one full-length album on his own. From 2005, the project expands into a full band, with Michael Hutchinson on bass and David Croshaw on drums joining the line-up, after which Woodman focuses on guitar.

Releases and development

The group’s first full-length album is Chap With The Wings, Five Rounds Rapid, released in 2006. This is followed by Bring Me Sun for Breakfast the next year. Its debut label release is We Bake Our Bread Beneath Her Holy Fire, issued in June 2010.

Style

Thumpermonkey’s music is described as progressive rock with an avant sensibility, avoiding what is presented as a more conventional or overly polished prog style. The writing also points to melodic guitar work and prominent singing, while retaining links to progressive and experimental rock tendencies.
