Thorns

Thorns are a Norwegian black metal and electronic group from Trondheim, active from 1989. The band begins as Stigma Diabolicum before changing its name to Thorns after two years. It is centred on Snorre W. Ruch, known as Blackthorn, who also performs in Mayhem and Satyricon.

History and style

The group is identified with industrial black metal and black metal, and is described as a Norwegian black and industrial metal band. Its early work includes two influential demos from the early 1990s, Grymyrk and Trøndertun. Despite being founded in 1989, the band issues only one full-length album.

Personnel

The band’s members are Harald Eilertsen, Marius Vold and Jon Wesseltoft.

Related context

Ruch’s role in the band links Thorns to Mayhem and Satyricon. He is also associated with the murder case involving Mayhem guitarist Euronymous, after accompanying Varg Vikernes on the car journey to Euronymous’ flat; he is convicted to eight years in prison.
