Thornhill

Thornhill is a Melbourne, Australia-based metal band formed in 2015. The group begins as a metalcore act and later moves towards an alternative metal sound influenced by Deftones. Its line-up includes Jacob Charlton on vocals and guitar, Ethan McCann on guitar, Ben Maida on drums, Nick Sjogren on bass, and Matt van Duppen on guitar.

Releases

The band debuts in 2016 with the EP 13, then follows it with Butterfly two years later. Its first full-length album, The Dark Pool, appears in 2019 and is widely regarded as the group’s best-known release. Thornhill then releases Heroine in 2022, described as its first alternative metal album, and BODIES in 2025, which draws on nu metal influences.

Style and membership

Thornhill’s music spans alternative metal, metalcore, progressive metal and progressive metalcore. The band is associated with Melbourne’s metalcore scene. Former members include Sam Anderson, who plays guitar from 2015 to 2017, and Matt Van Duppen, who plays guitar from 2017 to 2022.
