Thomston is the stage name of Thomas Stoneman, a singer-songwriter from Auckland, New Zealand. His music draws on indie, electronic and pop styles, with influences that include Frank Ocean and James Blake. His writing is also compared to the work of Taylor Swift and Lorde for its sharpness and directness.
Career
Thomston emerges with his debut record Topograph as a teenager and develops a following through his own blend of pop-oriented production and songwriting. He accumulates more than 150 million streams worldwide and tours in support of BROODS and Billie Eilish.
Releases and recognition
In 2018, his single The Heights reaches number one on the Hot NZ Chart and brings an MTV EMA nomination for Best New Zealand Artist. His sophomore album Crushed appears in 2022. It includes April, which reaches number 13 on New Zealand’s Airplay chart, and Magnolia, recorded with Zeph.
