Thomas Rhett
Thomas Rhett Akins, Jr. is an American country music singer and songwriter from Valdosta, United States. He works under the name Thomas Rhett and is the son of singer-songwriter Rhett Akins. His style is identified with contemporary country, country and country pop.
Early life and career beginnings
He grows up around the music industry because of his father’s career. While studying business and communications at Lipscomb University in Nashville, he forms a cover band and begins playing fraternity parties and other small gigs. After performing at a Nashville showcase at his father’s urging, he receives a publishing deal from Ben Vaughn of EMI Music, who had also signed Rhett Akins earlier in his career.
Recording career
Thomas Rhett co-writes “I Ain’t Ready to Quit” on Jason Aldean’s 2010 album My Kinda Party. He signs a recording contract with Big Machine Records’ Valory Music Group division in 2011. In 2012, he releases his debut single, “Something to Do with My Hands”.
