Thomas Azier

Thomas Azier is a Dutch avant-pop singer, composer, songwriter and producer from Leiderdorp, the Netherlands, born in 1987. He is associated with electropop, new wave, pop and synth-pop, and he works in a style that shifts between forceful electronic pop and more melodic material.

Career

Azier builds his early reputation on a powerful form of synth pop with prominent vocals. His first releases include the EPs Hylas 001 and Hylas 002, followed by the Hylas album in 2015, which marks the peak of his Berlin period. He is based in Berlin and Paris across recent years.

He also gains wider attention as a co-writer and producer on Stromae’s Racine Carrée album in 2013. After moving to Paris, he releases Rouge in 2017 and Stray in 2018, both of which show a move towards a more elegant and melodic electronic pop sound. His fourth full-length album, Love, Disorderly, appears in 2020.

EPs and later releases

Between albums, Azier continues to issue shorter releases. These include the EP Raven on the First Floor in 2019 and the long single A Collection of Broken Ideas in 2021, a 43-minute suite divided into two sides of more than 20 minutes each.
