This is Lorelei is the recording project of New York-based musician and multi-instrumentalist Nate Amos. It functions as a solo outlet in which he writes, performs, engineers, mixes and masters each release himself.

Background

Amos grows up in a musical household in Virginia and Vermont and spends much of his early life in a studio environment. That background shapes his interest in composition and in experimental approaches to pop music. He later develops musically in Chicago, where he builds relationships within the city’s DIY scene.

Career

In Chicago, Amos records under both Opposites and This is Lorelei. He also engineers and masters many albums, plays on multiple projects, and curates the online DIY label Grandpa Bay. What begins as a more direct songwriting project in Chicago develops into a more intimate deconstruction of pop music as his compositional approach expands.

He moves to New York City in 2016. There he becomes the producer of the dance pop duo Water From Your Eyes and a contributing musician for the indie band Thanks For Coming.

Style

This is Lorelei is associated with indie pop, indie rock, bedroom pop, experimental music and lo-fi aesthetics. Amos treats the project as a self-contained space for testing ideas and refining sound.
