This Is Colour

This Is Colour are a progressive power groove band from Suffolk, UK. They form in 2005 and remain active. The group is initially made up of Tom Cronin, Luke Truman, Keir Atkinson, Nicholas Cheshire and Elliot Bowes Shaves, drawn from earlier projects, and plays its first show in Ipswich, Suffolk, in October 2005. Dean Ceconi, Jon McGinn and Sean Griffin attend that early performance and later become part of the line-up.

Early releases and touring

The band records an early demo, First Steps, at West Suffolk College in Bury St Edmunds. It is not physically issued, although some tracks appear online. Their first proper release is A Brief Demonstration in 2007, recorded in a shed in Glemsford, Suffolk. The release brings the band attention from promoters across the UK, and they tour widely after it, playing with Taking Back Sunday, Underoath, The Black Dahlia Murder, Your Demise and Architects.

Albums and label work

Thirty Days of Night Records later releases the band’s first studio album, No Brainer, after it is recorded in summer 2008 at Studio 33 near Spalding, Lincolnshire, with Neema Askari. The album appears in 2009. The band is unsigned at present. After No Brainer, it releases the singles Make The Most and Exhausting The Resource, both recorded and produced by Keir Atkinson.

Music video and merchandise

Exhausting The Resource is accompanied by the group’s first music video, directed and edited by guitarist Tom Cronin with help from photographer Jordan Green. The band also becomes known for merchandise using the phrase “Stay Rad”, including T-shirts and vests; the group does not create the phrase, but it is the first to print it.

The current line-up is Dean Ceconi on vocals, Keir Atkinson on lead guitar, Tom Cronin on rhythm guitar, Jon McGinn on bass and Sean Griffin on drums. Former members listed are Elliot Bowes Shaves, Luke Truman and Nicholas Cheshire.
