Theatre Royal
Theatre Royal is a UK indie rock group formed in 2009 in Medway, following a day spent breaking into a derelict Victorian theatre in Chatham with Billy Childish and Lupen Crook. The group’s music moves between garage-style clatter, pop, alt country, psychedelic West Coast pop and punk/new wave, with influences including The Smiths, Echo and the Bunnymen, The Beatles, The Velvet Underground and Buffalo Springfield. The band has also been compared with The National, Doves and The Brian Jonestown Massacre.
The group records on Rochester label The Preservation Society Presents and releases material through its own catalogue, including the albums from rubble rises and At The End Of A River, The Sea.., plus the Spit and a Dream EP. A third album, We Don't Know Where We Are, is planned for release on Vacilando 68 Recordings. The band’s work is described as moving directly toward melody, and it remains active in the United Kingdom.
