The Young Folk
The Young Folk are an Irish folk band formed in 2011. The group is made up of Paul Butler, Anthony Furey, Karl Hand and Tony Mcloughin.
Background
The band develops a sound that combines traditional instruments with modern musical elements, placing them outside a conventional folk format. Their work attracts support from a range of Irish broadcasters, including RTE DJs Pat Kenny, Cathal Murray and John Creedon, 2FM presenters Jenny Houston, Paddy McKenna and Ruth Scott, and TV3’s Ireland AM.
Early recognition
Shortly after releasing their debut EP in late 2011, The Young Folk are selected as Irish Play Artist of the Week in Galway. They are also named a finalist for best upcoming band in the Irish Music Awards and are invited to perform at the IMRO Venue Award Show, The Best of IMRO showcase and the Irish Independent Radio Award Show.
Broadcast and media attention
By 2012, the band features across radio and television coverage in Ireland, helping establish them as one of the more recognised bands in the country.
