The Wet Secrets

The Wet Secrets are an indie rock group from Edmonton, active from 2006. The band forms around Lyle Bell, who also plays in Shout Out Out Out Out and Whitey Houston, and Trevor Anderson of The Vertical Struts. Kim Rackel, Donna Ball and Jeremy Nischuk also join the line-up at the start, making the group a five-piece.

Formation and early releases

The band begins as a short writing-and-performance experiment, with the aim of writing all-new songs between the first rehearsal and the debut show. Their first rehearsal takes place on 12 February 2005, and their first performance follows a week later at Seedy's in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. They play a set of just over an hour to a dancing audience after seven days of writing and rehearsing.

A document of that experiment appears as the ten-song CD A Whale of a Cow, released in March 2005. The release captures the material written during that first week.

Recording and later material

In January 2006, the group starts travelling from Edmonton to Calgary on occasional weekends to record new songs with Diego Medina. The resulting tracks are later made available as a free download through the band’s website as the internet EP Rock Fantasy.
