The Weirdos

The Weirdos are a punk and punk rock group from Los Angeles, United States. They form in 1976 and are active until 2005. The band begins as an art-rock act before being associated with punk after appearing in a Time magazine news article covering punk rock groups. They become known for a strong DIY approach and for an unusual visual style, using whatever clothing and accessories they can find, including bags, straps and chains.

Line-up and personnel

The core line-up includes vocalist John Denney, his brother Dix Denney on guitar, bassist Dave Trout, drummer Nickey “Beat” Alexander and guitarist Cliff Roman. Other members associated with the group include Art Fox, Cliff Martinez, Billy Persons, Zander Schloss, David Trout and Greg Williams.

History

The Weirdos break up in 1981, then reunite at different points. One reunion leads to the 1990 album Condor. A 2004 reunion features Zander Schloss in the line-up. The group remains identified with the Los Angeles punk scene and 1977-style punk.
