The Walkers

The Walkers are a Dutch country and skiffle group from Maastricht, in Limburg, Netherlands. They form in 1963 and are active until 1979. The band develops from Jean Innemee’s earlier Mosam Skiffle Group.

Line-up and formation

The Walkers are founded by Jean Innemee, who plays bass guitar and sings. The group includes Maddy Bleize on drums and vocals, Conny Peters on saxophone, keyboards, flute and clarinet, and Adri Coenen on guitar. From 1973, René Innemee joins on guitar and vocals. The verified line-up also includes John Coenen, Floor Minnaert and Walter Nita.

Recording style and songwriting

Jean Innemee writes songs in several styles, languages and dialects, and some of these are performed abroad. The band works in folk, country and skiffle-based material, with a repertoire that crosses between Dutch and English-language songs.

Best-known recording

The Walkers are best remembered for There's No More Corn On The Brasos, sometimes shortened to There's No More Corn on some releases. The English-language recording sells over a million copies.
